Anime

Puella Magi Madoka Magica / Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica
- this anime is very important to me... idk why, but it taught me a lot about story and characters. the story itself is the base for my Cobalt Saga, although the Saga has long since outgrown and transformed itself well past its roots
- i almost never have the main character be my favorite character, but in this anime, madoka is my favorite by far. i admire characters who are wholly selfless, and i admit i cried for those girls at the ending.
- the story also taught me a lot about how to handle depth and reveals, such as when mami died and the entire tone of the show shifted. i, being me, already knew about the memes like 'omg mami won free headless' and the madoka reactions and so on, but SEEING it was incredible for me from a creative's pov. the way they were so excited, and even Mami said 'im not alone anymore', only to die... and then homura drops in and confirms the heavy truth, that 'this is the life/fate of a magical girl'...
- the concept of 'despair' being weaponized like a physical thing too was good for me to learn about, too. despair and sanity are underutilized in the same way that is shown in pmmm... usually its 'everyone goes insane and kills each other' (which, granted, did happen with Mami in that one timeline), but here its like despair can be both bad and good and have consequences beyond our imaginations...? like everyone was driven to kyubey by despair, and they came together, and subsequently died for each other and for themselves, and just for life in general. i appreciated sayaka's portrayal the most, as her turning into a witch seemed like a suicide metaphor... and kyoko's death was because of guilt and a sense of honoring her because she loved that girl... like omg
- its just one of those things man, just happy to have seen it + if i hadn't this site wouldn't be here by law of butterfly effect and all that. be grateful
Nichijou
- absolute cinema, probably peak anime imo
- i need to read the manga but the anime is peak cinema because i think of a scene at night and then just die laughing without even needing to see a clip.. the mangaka is a genius
- the scene with the book is by far my favorite because of the payoff
- nothing i could say here would be enough so i won't be able to go in detail, but i adore Nano wholeheartedly
My Melody & Kuromi (Netflix 2025)
- Absolute insane horrors beyond comprehension softened through rose colored sanrio character shaped glasses. Genuinely insane that something like this was as intense as this was, but im so glad someone out there noticed that people love horrors and complex themes.
- the MOLD
- its cute and complex! actual sanrio content on a level an adult could feel good about watching (not that that stopped anyone before, but you know the type who says that...)
- im not as big a fan of kuromi as i am my melo, but she was so good when she had her workers behind her (and especially when they DIED LOL), she was definitely at her best! i also like that the kuromi note culture came through hard with this anime, where she's basically got an eternal victim complex but will abandon it when my melo really needs her!!
- also this counts as anime bc its on MAL and i logged it there so yeah
Mrs. Kobayashi's Dragon Maid
- let me start by saying i watched only S1 and the valentine's special so if you ask me something it might be straight up misinformation (good, i think my takes are the best anyway)
- personally peak yuri if you ignore all the uncomfortable things
- although its completely understandable if you don't watch bc of them, it even made me wince a time or two
- i love the kobayashi household in particular so much that im afraid to watch S2 or read the manga
- kanna doesn't deserve this man she's adorable and i LOVE her in the sports day episode
- literally in the episode kobayashi is like FINE ill give you the childhood i never had okay i love you bye sweetie
- it reminds me of the Cardcaptor Sakura sports day episode a little but i can't tell if its because they're both sports days or if i just like sports day episodes in anime
- also idk if this is a hot take or not but riko saikawa is adorable with kanna when she's not super sexualized.. like its funny but imo it would be better (even if you are a gooner) if it stayed with her just blowing up every time kanna is nearby
- also i don't mean to laugh but lucoa is funny sometimes when she's just being clueless so i can safely separate her character around the dragons from her actions with shouta even though i hate shouta and her
- i dislike her heavily even though she's funny, but i don't wanna speak on her without having seen the whole series (even though ive seen the type of things the creator does with her + i know she's like one of his favorites, so i have a pretty good idea that this is a constant)
- i don't want to watch S2 but i probably will at some point to complete my analysis of the show (even though i don't think much would change since i already picked apart what i like and don't like)

Monster
- i haven't finished Monster but ive seen enough to tell you Tenma is the goat
- whatever was on YT as Monster eng dub is what i watched religiously, and it was like a 10hr video of i wanna say ended right as Tenma was captured by the police while helping that kid who scraped his leg.
- By the way that was like really suspiciously convienent? Was that a setup lol
- but Tenma is a BEAST, insane at helping others and so good at it that no one snitched on him somehow despite him just freely roaming Germany as a wanted man while a whole nosy and insane guy was on his ass
- i know everyone quotes johan from this anime but it gives me the same vibes as people unironically useing Bateman in their sigma chad memes... he's not in the right at all, i hope they know that
- being me, i can see if you mean extreme pessimism, but even then like............ i don't think its healthy to idolize words from the mouth of the devil who cares not for you
- in fact, i find him absolutely comically evil to the point i laughed when he led that kid to suicide (not the kid comitting suicide, the fact he even did that, because what the hell)
- i have a deep love for when authors and creators make their antagonists scum of the earth and unhinged. i also do that so game respects game.
- also Tenma is either like 'god... i need to kill him but idk' or 'i need him dead NOW and IM gonna do it bc I was the one who brought him back to life!' and im like kill that thing patrick ew

Solo Leveling
- i don't even like this series, i think its normieslop for people who 'watch anime' (and then its like naruto and this and nothing else) and the fact that roblox devs adopted it for their slop means im right. (targeted attack to the betas who weren't there when i played og ftof)
  i just want a negative and charged review to be messy LOL since i technically watched it
- idk if this is like a hot take but i genuinely feel that the anime and webcomic version of this series is slop to the max
- and its crazy to me bc i looked at the original sources and not too much was taken out, but what was taken out was a little bit of a big deal imo... but then again, im not the target audience so its ymmv on this review
- when i watched it, i didn't really pick up anything special and it was so boring to me.. epitome of hype moments and aura with no substance... he does NOTHING but aura farm and be a self insert so badly its insane
- i did see a good fanfic that im gatekeeping though so thats on them
- this is only popular bc sung drip woo here is the ideal self insert, really. after his reawakening or whatever they called it, he abruptly just lost all personality and committed to The Grind. i called it a new kind of twink death, like twink rot lol
- ummmmm aside from that the fights hard carry the series, but unfortunately im not 14 years old so its hard for me to appreciate them beyond the animation goes hard
- he literally has no personality, idk how they did it they could have made him like Geralt (and then he'd be likeable for more than just tik tok edits with that fuckass purple aura and the blue eyes) but noo
- he was originally intended to be decreasing in humanity as his power level grew, but i think it was written in the worst way possible? so i have no idea if anyone got that from him + i had to look it up

- i think i would say that he's disgusting and very much a grown man-child at times, but he's learning and healing
- i have respect for him but at the same time i have no idea how much i can praise him seeing as he never learns anything and always does too much but at the same time is such a good person who means a lot to his students
- he definitely will catch a case if he does what he does forever but god i hope that Fuyutsuki (and her manga counterpart bc ik they're not the same) reins him in before that + they have outstanding chemistry
- its always fun when a standard career woman is clearly going to be the dominant one in the relationship and you can tell that's the case... onizuka is a good guy even if he is a pig sometimes, so its like... yeah, she can fix him easy

My Little Pony / MLP
- Might as well start it off with this classic, no?
- im lucky to have good memories of mlp bc i dipped out of it as a kid bc i thought it was stupid lol
- i came back and watched it fully when i was like... maybe either last year or when i was 18? i watched it on and off since then. ive come to understand that all the people who are like YAY i love mlp might not have watched mlp in modern day? just when they were little or so in the original airings
- not that there's anything wrong with it, im not gatekeeping mlp and calling people like poseurs lmao, i just find it fun and i love fun things
- anyway mlp has a lot going for it but im getting a hot take out of the way immediately
- rainbow dash and pinkie pie are the worst of the ponies and would be horrible friends irl.
- also know that when i say 'worst' i mean in terms of worst of the best, as they're not like evil or horrible or anything.. i still love the two!! so this is loving part of hate lmao
- rainbow dash constantly does such horrible things and up and ignoring her friends... i feel like im crazy when i tell people that i don't see any difference between discord's opposite her ditching people and her normal personality. the only redeeming thing of her is that she technically 'learns her lesson' every episode, but then she does stuff like that AGAIN. and then people in the fandom are like 'no that's called being 20% cooler!!' (but then i go on like r/mlplounge or r/mylittlepony and eventually see 'hey about RD.....' so i know im not alone)
- and as for pinkie pie... i know people like her and hc her to be adhd/audhd, but even then she's so intense and sometimes falls into the same problems as RD. she also constantly doesn't listen to anyone or give people space but gets away with it bc 'oh, that's just pinkie'.. I honestly prefer Izzy from G5 because she's like a more relatable, present version of Pinkie whose whole identity isn't summed up as hyper flanderization of herself. Then again, i really don't hate pinkie, but im really more of a maud fan bc i relate to her better
- also people like to defend twilight for all she does but im ngl she deserves some of the consequences that come to her. she's a very good character and i like how she fails and gets blamed! it's a POSITIVE, not a negative, especially later on when she's a future ruler!
- let me see.. like, for the wedding thing, imagine you go to the wedding of a stressed bride who's just lost all her bridesmaids and has been treating you with ultimate respect the whole time. she's been nice and your whole visit has been happy and insightful, and you get to be with the princesses in a fun, if not controlled chaotic setting as you help Cadance prepare for her wedding. and then your good friend twilight comes in insulting her and calling her unworthy of marrying her brother... you'd assume it was just bitter jealousy or something. they were perfectly in line with their reactions, and it was justified
- im not saying twilight was in the wrong to confront 'Cadance' but omg girl you need some evidence, that's like rule #1 when dealing with doubles and imposters. you'd think she'd know that since she canonically reads books like Daring Do? i think they should have made it clearer as to why they don't believe her, because even irl you should know you can't accuse someone without proof and then expect to be treated like you discovered something
- also in the movie twilight was in the wrong and im glad they punished her for it in the best way!! (i love twilight so much)
- also idk if this is a hot take or not but rarity easily solos as the best mlp character. even just from a character perspective, shes genuinely the most complex and mature in the show. she's literally such a good inversion of her character archetype. where others would be selfish and vain, she believes in everyone and wants them to be their best selves. and this aspect only grows and matures as the show goes on! and when she reverts to her old ways for a moment, her morality wins out in the end and she OWNS IT and has the maturity to be the first to apologize or admit her faults unprompted 90% of the time
- as for fluttershy... she's always a hit or miss. i adore her final character, reserved but not timid and fragile. but then i just feel like it falls flat when she's a whole enabler for a man who's bullying the girlies?
- her relationship with discord (platonic or romantic, you decide but i think romantic) almost always reads as him being manipulative to others and slightly (if not subconsciously) using her, and im actually surprised its not talked about more. discord literally uses her as a shield to hide behind so he can bully and manipulate her and her friends, but WHY doesn't anyone do something about it? fluttershy NEEDS to cut him off, but instead he goes free and lives around fluttershy forever... she even giggles about him in the tea party episode while im looking at her like GIRL when twilight was close to exploding when he purposefully excluded her that one time
- and this isn't even a hot or cold take, its the truth... because why do people act like he's reformed when the last thing he did was he literally tried to end all ponies just for fun... HELLO? am i on a different planet why is everyone just like oh! okay well lol he's reformed
- i still love fluttershy though, she's so me sometimes
- finally, as for applejack... i love her and her family. but i love her auntie applesauce and granny smith's personalities and dynamic more than applejack or the ponyville apple family alone. those girlies are divas and ill die on that hill
Steven Universe
- god... here we go.
- steven universe is one of my favorite cartoons of all time, even if it is considered cringe or bad or gay or whatever you think it is...
- btw if that's your criticism of it i automatically assume you're incapable of vulnerability and blindly follow rumors and let others opinions affect you. or that you're a child. this show is all around peak, even if its rough around the edges
- that's not to say it doesn't have legitimate criticism that can be applied, but its just that the criticism you receive will vary. common ones are the art direction being unstable, characters being rushed, and the narrative being unstable because of choices of the creator/execs (such as basically dooming the show because of one marriage)
- also idk if this is out of left field but i hate people who say 'early/mid/late SU was bad so its all bad!' and then you look for more on that statement and all they say is, idk it was just bad/weird... everyone has their own preferences, and i accept and acknowledge that, but for some people (you know who) .......... the real tea is they just hate the gays and the message of love but you didn't hear that from me
- while i don't think the marriage was the reason for the show being cancelled, i do partially agree that it could have been shelved if it WAS. but omg i would cry in another universe if i learned that garnet had a wedding we didn't see, so its so-so
- anyway to actually get into the series, rose and pearl were beautiful together and i hate what rose did to pearl, but at the same time, i could never hate rose. if it makes sense, i hate her for pearl, but i love rose for rose?
- pearl is one of the deepest characters with the most nuance to her character, defined by secrets kept and her devotion to rose. i feel like its almost necessary to watch steven universe twice just for pearl alone. so many people hate pearl for the things she does that seem annoying or so, but she's really just another victim. i admire her strength for being able to finally escape the memory of rose, and i adore her new path that seemed to have begun to bloom with bismuth.. like omg peeeeeeaaaaaaarrl
- i have no idea if this video would stay up, but this is a good dive into rose quartz's scenes in canonical order! i would only recommend watching it though if you have already watched steven universe, as it cuts the context short to be a brief overview.
- the way Sugar handled PD/RQ's life being shown in reverse was very cool to me, but at the same time i think did irreperable damage to the fandom lol... so many people need it spelled out for them in jet black ink who they're supposed to like and dislike
- not to mention we get a complex female character and im like oh this is cute, i like it! and then see her get sprayed with the Raid because people can't handle her being both good and bad at the same time. Her whole lore is when she's bad she's bad, and when she's good she's good
- and also i know shes GONE but i still believe that Rose exists in that gem or in her room at the temple somewhere. its just a little guilty headcanon because i like to imagine she fully remade herself to live as steven, and if steven dies, then she'll just keep being pink steven. or maybe she'll just never come back and the gem will deactivate for good? or perhaps steven has an elongated life span? so many possibilities!
- im sorry for talking about Rose so much, she's like one of my favorites and ill always defend her. she's a horrible person when you think of her past but i think she tried her best on earth. you can tell all the little things she's learned just from how she carries herself in greg's flashbacks, but at the same time there's so much she could never understand. i choose to believe this is why she had steven, so she could make up for her past somehow by gaining a human understanding, and NOT because she wanted to run away. i don't think she had a right to bring a child into the world, seeing her lineage and all she's done, as she surely knew horrible things would come for him. but, at the same time, i like envisioning her as a slightly suicidal girl who just wants to make things right but can't find her own words. perhaps she didn't know at all what would happen to steven.
